Ingredients

Fried Green Tomatoes

  • 4 green tomatoes, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp 2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 2 tsp ground black pepper, divided
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups canola oil (or as needed for frying)

Cajun Ranch Dipping Sauce

  • ½ cup ranch dressing
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 2 tsp hot pepper sauce

Instructions

Season the Tomatoes

  • Sprinkle the tomato slices with salt and pepper.

Prepare the Breading Stations

  • In a shallow bowl, mix flour with 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon black pepper.
  • Pour buttermilk into a separate shallow bowl.
  • In a third bowl, combine cornmeal, parsley, paprika, cayenne pepper, and the remaining salt and black pepper.

Coat the Tomatoes

  • Dredge each tomato slice in the flour mixture.
  • Dip into the buttermilk, ensuring full coverage.
  • Coat with the seasoned cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
  • Place coated slices on a baking sheet and let sit for 10–15 minutes to absorb the coating.

Fry to Perfection

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Gently drop tomato slices into the hot oil and fry for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown and floating.
  • Remove and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.

Prepare the Cajun Ranch Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together ranch dressing, Cajun seasoning, and hot pepper sauce.

Serve & Enjoy

  • Plate the crispy fried green tomatoes and serve with the Cajun ranch dipping sauce.
