1. Can I use ripe tomatoes instead of green ones?

Nope! Ripe tomatoes are too soft and will turn mushy when fried. Stick to firm, unripe green tomatoes for that perfect tangy flavor and crispy bite.

2. What if I don’t have buttermilk?

No problem! Make your own by mixing 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar. Let it sit for 5 minutes, and you’re good to go.

3. Why do I need to let the tomatoes rest before frying?

Letting the coated slices rest for 10–15 minutes helps the breading stick better, meaning extra crunch and less mess in the oil!

4. Can I bake them instead of frying?

Yep! For a lighter version, place the coated slices on a greased baking sheet, spray with oil, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

5. What dipping sauces go well with fried green tomatoes?

Cajun Ranch is a winner, but you can also try remoulade sauce, spicy aioli, or even classic marinara. Get creative and find your favorite!

Now you’re ready to fry up a crispy batch of Southern goodness!
